Abstract
Julian Chrysostomides (1928-2008) was a distinguished Byzantinist and a devoted teacher. Born in Constantinople she studied at Oxford and subsequently taught for more than three decades at Royal Holloway, University of London. For her, knowledge and education, if pursued with selflessness, dedication and compassion, could be a remedy for the wrongs and evils of this world. She worked passionately towards this aim, inspiring generations of students with her scholarship, integrity and humanity. “In their turn”, she remarked, “they taught me and made me think”. The article, based on her obituary, highlights her life, work, contribution, and her legacy.
