Project: Research

Project Details

Description

The research project will explore the current citizenship law and political determination of citizenship status in India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. It will also examine the international legal framework that is applicable to these states in order to protect the basic rights of refugees and stateless persons. For instance, the project will assess the role of international organisations to protect these rights. The research question this project will address is β€œto what extent can international law protect the basic rights of the refugees and stateless persons in India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh outside of the statelessness conventions and Refugee convention?” The scoping work will identify the nature and extent of rights that are unavailable to the refugees and the interview data would significantly locate the barriers for upholding such rights.
