Project Details
Description
This project explores how the findings from two previous AHRC-funded research projects, The Sensational Museum (TSM) and the Workshop for Co-Created Inclusive Audio Description (W-ICAD) can be applied to a living history museum. This specific cultural context presents a set of unique challenges which were not considered in previous work. Our research project has been developed in discussion with two sector partners and an end-user group and is based around the co-creation research methodology developed in previous projects. We will work with a group of blind and partially blind museum visitors, the museum learning team and an audio description provider to devise, deliver and evaluate a programme of workshops co-created by blind and partially blind adults. In these workshops we will create resources that will subsequently be available to all visitors to the museum. Our research will explore what happens to the museum experience of all visitors, when the museum moves away from the emphasis on traditional sight-based experiences towards a multi-sensory offer.
