Description

The research team was invited to undertake this research by Slough Cultural Revival. The research aims to explore the challenges and opportunities faced by freelance artists – and what this means for dance, particularly focusing on what constitutes dancers’ portfolio careers, the pathways to their portfolio careers, and how dance organisations can address the gaps in support to help dancers achieve their portfolios.

The dance research is the third in a series of short pieces of research. The first informed Slough’s Cultural strategy, and addressed the challenges of sustaining a career in Slough where there has been very little cultural infrastructure. The second addressed the work of freelance creatives in Slough, and was awarded Royal Holloway’s UKRI Social Science Impact Accelerator Grant.
