Project Details
Description
This project was conceived at the International Workshop "Vom Codex zur Edition. From Manuscripts to Books" co-organised by the Department for Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies, University of Cyprus, and the Institut für Byzanzforschung, Österreichische Akademie der Wissenschaften, in Vienna (10-11 December 2009). Its aim is to produce a list of all extant autograph manuscripts and documents written by Byzantine authors. By 'autograph' we mean a text written by the author in his/her own hand. Additional information on manuscripts containing samples of the author's hand which are not autographs in the strict sense of the term, will also be included in order to facilitate research into the idiosyncracies of these authors' hands. It is hoped that this list will become a useful tool to students and scholars in the field of Greek palaeography.
The research project, funded by RHUL Hellenic Institute, is conducted by Dr Christopher Wright under the guidance of Dr Charalambos Dendrinos. Philip Taylor is currently developing the webpage which will give external users access to the database.
