Description

The Walter Benjamin International Memorial Prize is a biennial prize awarded for a long unpublished essay inspired by the multifaceted nature of Walter Benjamin's own thought and writing, and with particular emphasis on the history and memory of the twentieth century. (My prize-winning essay is entitled: 'Stories to get by: Margaret Michaelis (1902-1985) and Rudolf Michaelis (1907-1990)'. Submissions for the prize can be made in English or in any major European language. The prize is awarded by an international jury appointed by the awarding bodies - the Catalan government (Generalitat), University of Girona and MUME (Museu Memorial de l’Exili) in Portbou/La Jonquera. The prize also incorporates publication of the winning essay in a Catalan translation.
