Research interests

Dr. Muhammad Zubair Abbasi is an academic lawyer with expertise in comparative law, business law, family law, Islamic law, and law & technology. He received his Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil) in Law from University of Oxford and Master of Laws (LL.M) Corporate Governance from Manchester University.

Dr. Abbasi has held research positions at several institutions, including the Oxford Department of International Development and the Max Planck Foundation for International Peace & the Rule of Law, Heidelberg. He has also held visiting positions at the American University in Cairo and Westminster University, London. Dr. Abbasi currently serves as Editor of the Yearbook of Middle Eastern and Islamic Law and as Editor for Harvard Law School’s SHARIAsource.

Dr Abbasi has authored several publications, including books and research papers, on law and technology, contract law, and comparative family law. His most recent works include: ‘Responsible Legal Augmentation: Integrating Generative AI into Legal Practice’ (2025) 7(3) Law, Technology and Humans 5-13; ‘Scaling Artificial Intelligence for Augmented Learning: Developing a Generative AI Evaluation Scale through a Case Study in Islamic Inheritance Law’ (2025) 3 Journal of Digital Islamicate Research 5-32; and Contract Law: Principles and Practices (Oxford University Press 2026).
