Tiago Fernandes De Nobrega

Personal profile

Personal profile

Tiago Fernandes de Nóbrega is an MPhil student in Particle Accelerator Physics at Royal Holloway, part of John Adams Institute (JAI), and under the supervision of Professor Stephen Gibson. His research focuses on the development of laser techniques for beam instrumentation and diagnostics, using Beam Delivery Simulation (BDSIM) accelerator modelling software to simulate laserwire diagnostics systems.

Tiago completed his MSci (Hons) in Physics at Royal Holloway, where his project investigated laser-sculpting techniques for tailoring beam properties in accelerators. He designed and built a custom photon-density optical system, characterised it experimentally, and modelled its performance using BDSIM; demonstrating the feasibility of beams-by-design. During his degree, Tiago also undertook research placements in gravitational wave data analysis and accelerator RF systems.

In addition to his research, Tiago contributes to teaching within the Department of Physics by marking coursework for the PH3210 Quantum Theory module. He has also been active in outreach, having previously served as President of the Royal Holloway Physics Society, where he delivered live demonstrations and coordinated student-led engagement events.
