Personal profile
Personal profile
I am a social scientist interested in international political economy, African politics, and global health and development. Currently, I am a Reader in Global Political Economy at Royal Holloway-University of London, and a Research Associate in Political Economy at the Centre for Business Research, University of Cambridge.
My research focuses on the activities of international financial institutions, like the International Monetary Fund. I am interested in the determinants, relational dynamics, and consequences of their lending, surveillance, and capacity development activities. This work has been funded by Cambridge Political Economy Society Trust, Cambridge Commonwealth Trust, Economic and Social Research Council, and Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga.
My first book, A Thousand Cuts: Social Protection in the Age of Austerity (with A. Kentikelenis), was published in 2023 by Oxford University Press. My second book, Greening the International Monetary Fund (with A. Kentikelenis), was published in 2025 by Cambridge University Press. My work has appeared in leading academic journals, such as American Journal of Sociology, BMJ Global Health, Review of International Political Economy, Review of International Organizations, Social Science & Medicine, and World Development.
I am also the curator of IMF Monitor, a data hub used by academics, civil society, and policymakers to track activities of the International Monetary Fund. Beyond my academic work, I have been a consultant to various international, public, and non-governmental organizations, including the German Ministry of International Cooperation and Development, Oxfam International, Recourse Foundation, and United Nations Children's Fund.
