Personal profile

Research interests

My research explores the psychological impact of domestic abuse, with a particular focus on coercive control. I am interested in how coercive control shapes parenting experiences, affects children and sibling relationships, and continues to influence families through post-separation abuse. A further strand of my research examines how mental health professionals understand, identify, and respond to coercive control, including the development of competence frameworks and training resources.

My earlier work focused on cognitive and behavioural processes in psychosis, anxiety, and perinatal mental health, including the role of responsibility beliefs in psychotic symptoms and the impact of postpartum psychosis on the mother–infant relationship. This grounding in psychological processes continues to inform my current approach to understanding coercive control and its consequences.
