Personal profile

My research explores the connections between early-20th-century avant-garde art and the short story cycles of Gertrude Stein, Ernest Hemingway, Sherwood Anderson and James Joyce. My interests include the short story, fragmentation, alienation, miscommunication, polysemy, epiphany, repetition and the (multi)fractal structures of language.

Before my PhD at Royal Holloway, I completed a BA in English at the University of Cambridge and an MA in Creative Writing at Royal Holloway, University of London.

My writing has appeared on BBC Radio 4, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) and in partnership with Wignall & Moore. My short stories have been longlisted for the Fish Story Prize and shortlisted for the Aleph Writing Prize.

I have taught creative writing seminars and supervised close readings of undergraduate creative writing essays. I was an examiner for Royal Holloway’s 2021 MA in Creative Writing.
