Nicholas Pierpan, BA (Bowdoin), MPhil (Oxford), DPhil (Oxford) is a playwright, screenwriter, and poet. His play, The Problem with the Seventh Year, was recently performed at the White Bear Theatre, London, and published by Methuen Drama. The production  funded by an Arts Council England National Lottery Project Grant and nominated for a Standing Ovation Award. He is currently commissioned on several television projects and recently finished his first musical.

Nicholas combined interests in theatre and the poetry of William Wordsworth by writing a play about the poet’s life, produced in 2017 by English Touring Theatre and the Theatre by the Lake in Keswick, Cumbria. He won the 2013 Off West End Award for Most Promising Playwright and was nominated for an Evening Standard Award for his play You Can Still Make a Killing. He has won two Peggy Ramsay Awards, and was shortlisted for the Yale Drama Prize and 2020 Eccles Centre & Hay Festival Writer’s Award. Nicholas was selected for the BBC Drama Production Writers’ Scheme and won the Script Factory Serious Screenwriting Award. After a BBC Sparks Radio Residency, His radio plays have been broadcast on BBC3, BBC4 and BBC6. He was named to the BBC's New Talent Hotlist in 2017, and in 2020/21 was a member of the Serial Eyes programme for television writers at the DFFB in Berlin. His poetry has been published in Poetry Review, The Guardian Review, Granta/British Council New Writing, Stand, and by Clutag Press.

An overarching research interest is the interplay between content and form in plays, screenwriting, and poetry – particularly how form drives content as much as, or more than, content influencing form.
