Personal profile

Longxiang is a Lecturer in Accounting at Royal Holloway, University of London and is currently Co-Director of the Environmental, Ecological and Extinction Accounting, Governance and Economics Research Group (EEEAGER) at Cardiff Business School.

Longxiang’s research spans interdisciplinary boundaries and informs practice, focusing on sustainable accounting and accountability. Longxiang’s research interests include circular economy, biodiversity/extinction accounting and accountability.

Longxiang has worked in several national and international interdisciplinary research projects. Before joining the College, Longxiang was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Camborne School of Mines & Environment and Sustainability Institute, at the University of Exeter, as part of The University of Queensland – University of Exeter (QUEX) Strategic Grant: ‘Resourcing Decarbonisation: The circular economics of climate-induced innovation in mining regions’. Longxiang also previously served as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Loughborough University, as part of the Interdisciplinary Circular Economy Centre for Mineral-based Construction Materials (ICEC-MCM), which was funded by UKRI, and researched enabling capital investment in the circularity of mineral-based construction materials.

Longxiang is committed to translating research into practice through active knowledge exchange with industry, government and professional bodies. During his postdocs, Longxiang completed an industrial secondment with Network Rail’s Circular Economy team to validate a sustainability-accounting tool and shared the case study with practitioner audiences (including the International Union of Railways). His work on developing circular economy business models for mining has been presented to the Queensland Government and at industry workshops. In parallel, he represents his department in the University of Exeter’s Knowledge Exchange Accelerator programme; and regularly contributes to policy- and practitioner-facing forums, such as the Macau Greater Bay Area Industry–Academia Forum featured by the Macao government and in Macau Business Magazine (July 2023).
