Laura Coryton MBE is a feminist campaigner, author and founder of the social enterprise 'Sex Ed Matters'.
Her PhD research aims to reimagine Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) so it is fit for the 21st century and arms students with the tools and confidence they need to navigate their reality of sex and relationships. She connects politics, history, legal principles and philosophical concepts to the RSE curriculum to transform it into a rigirous, broad, challenging and respectible subject. She is supervised by Dr Suki Finn and Professor Jill Marshall.
Outside of academia, Laura led the petition to end tampon tax, which gained over 300,000 signatures and support from major political figures including President Obama. Together, they successfully lobbied the government into establishing the Tampon Tax Fund, through which almost £100m was donated to female-focused charities, and to ending the sexist tax in 2021.
She is also an Obama Foundation European Leader and stood for the Labour Party in the 2024 parliamentary election. She did not win, but doubled Labour's vote share in Richmond Park.
For her work, she was awarded her MBE for services to campaigning in the King's New Year Honours List 2024.
