Research interests
Jane Everson is Emeritus Professor of Italian Literature in the School of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures at Royal Holloway.
She was educated at the University of Edinburgh, where she gained MA Hons, and at the University of Oxford, where she gained her D.Phil.
After holding posts at the University of Reading and the University of Leicester, she joined Royal Holloway in 1996, becoming Professor in 2002. She served as Head of the Department of Italian from 2002 to 2005, and continued to serve in a senior capacity within the School of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures until her retirement in 2014.
She has held Visiting Fellowships at St. John’s College, Oxford, and at Magdalen College, Oxford. She has served as a panel expert for Arts and Humanities Research Council research grants, as a member of the AHRC Peer Review College, as assessor for research audit and research grant applications for the University of Padua and as Peer Review for the Italian national research assessment exercise. She served as an associate director of the University of London Institute of Germanic and Romance Studies; and as Italian editor of the Modern Language Review.
She directed the two AHRC-funded collaborative project: The Italian Academies 1525-1700: a themed collection database; and The Italian Academies 1525-1700:the first intellectual networks of early modern Europe.
Her special areas of expertise is medieval and early modern Italian literature and culture. In 2015 she was Visiting Professor at the University of Padua. She is currently an Associate Fellow of the Institute of Modern Languages Research, University of London.
