Dr Hui Tan is Professor in Strategy and International Business. He started his academic career in the early 1990s when he was appointed a lecturer in international business at Renmin University of China, Beijing. He continued his academic career in 2000 after completing a PhD in management at the School of Management, University of Bath, holding a lectureship at the Centre for International Business, University of Leeds. He joined Royal Holloway, University of London, in 2006, as a Reader in Strategy. His research has focused on foreign direct investment into and from China, strategies of multinational enterprises from emerging markets, knowledge transfer and organizational learning, M&A, trust, cross cultural management, and innovation. His research papers have appeared in many well respected journals, such as Journal of World Business, Britiish Journal of Management, Management International Review, International Business Review, Asia Pacific Journal of Managment and Technovation.
Prof Tan has supervised more than 10 PhD students to completion. He welcomes PhD applications from those interested in the broad areas of global business management (internationalization, knowledge transfer, mergers and acquisitions, innovation, service firms and strategy in practice) and starup/venture investment.
Prof Tan is a senior editor of Management and Organization Review starting from January 2022.
