Personal profile

Personal profile

I have a background teaching fiction, poetry, literary non-fiction and children's literature at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Alongside the 'Interests' listed below, my research also focuses upon small press publishing, accessibility in the arts, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and the connections (both tenacious and tenuous) between theory, creative expression, readership, scholarship and enjoyment.

My critical and creative work has appeared in the London Review of Books, the TLS and the Guardian, and has been widely anthologised. My published works include novels, collections of short stories, and chapbooks of prose and poetry — more information available via the 'Research Outputs' linked below or this link. I have written and read work for BBC Radio 3 and 4, and have appeared on a number of national writing judges' panels including the RSL's Encore Award, the Republic of Consciousness Prize, Spread the Word's London Short Story Prize and the Desperate Literature Short Fiction Prize
