Personal profile

Dr Daanika Kamal is a Lecturer in Law at Royal Holloway, University of London. Her research explores the intersection of gender, law and access to justice, with a particular focus on domestic abuse and violence against women and girls (VAWG) in both criminal and family law contexts. She has worked across the development, legal and academic sectors as a socio-legal researcher, investigating police practices, litigation strategies and judicial responses relating to gender-based violence. Her monograph, Domestic Violence in Pakistan: The Legal Construction of 'Bad' and 'Mad' Women, is forthcoming with Oxford University Press. 

Daanika is a member of the editorial board of Feminist Legal Studies and has previously taught at Queen Mary University of London and London South Bank University. She holds an LL.M. from the University of Warwick and a Ph.D. in Law from Queen Mary University of London.

Daanika is available to supervise PhD candidates and welcomes opportunities to advise on prospective research proposals relating to gender and the law (including but not limited to women's access to justice, VAWG, and feminist thought and practice). 

Teaching

Daanika teaches Criminal Law, ELS and Family Law. She is an Associate Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy.
