Personal profile

I am a research associate in the Leverhulme Centre for Wildfires, Environment and Society. My research uses a political ecology approach to examine changes in the use and governance of fire within rural livelihoods. I have explored these issues in Belize, examining the legacies of British colonialism in approaches to savanna fire management. I am also working in the Scottish Highlands and Islands, looking at the drivers of change in the practice of muirburn (the use of fire to manage upland grazing areas) by crofters.

I have also been involved with various efforts to synthesise knowledge globally about human fire use within rural livelihoods.
