Camellia Biswas

I am trained in interdsciplinary environmental social sciences.

Currently, for my postdoc research, I am blending my experience in environmental anthropology with human geography to understand how 'heat' is embodied, acclimatised, and narrated as a climate disaster in everyday work environments for informal workers and also in more-than-human contexts in Cambodia.

I was a ASPR Harvard Fellow 2025 working on Human-seal relationship in Orkney, Scotland, through a deep time lens. (a continuation of my SGSAH Earth fellowship)

In my PhD I worked on the political ecology of climate disaster in the Indian Sundarbans, focusing on how it reshapes the human-non-human relationship, particularly through a lens of multispecies entanglement.

With over 7 years of fieldwork experience, my research expertise spans multiple methodology frameworks, including ethnography, oral narratives, visual documentation, and participatory methods such as mapping. Additionally, I integrate mapping in qualitative research to facilitate sustainable management of the marginal landscape. My approach prioritizes collaboration with local communities, emphasizing their relationships with nature and non-human entities, viewed through a decolonial lens.
