Research interests

Bisma Javed's research interests lie at the intersection of politics, gender, and religion. Her current doctoral project focuses on Prophetic Masculinity in Islamic texts (Sīrah writings) and its evolving interpretations in South Asia. Bisma examines how traditional depictions of masculinity, particularly those rooted in the portrayal of Prophet Muhammad, influence contemporary gender norms, while also exploring how political and religious institutions shape these ideals in modern contexts. Her work is driven by a commitment to bridging scholarly research with social change, contributing to the broader discourse on gender, religion, and politics in South Asia.

Educational background

Bisma holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology (2015-2018) and a Master’s degree in Gender Studies (2018-2020) from Jamia Millia Islamia, India.
