Knowledge Management
Professor Ashok Jashapara's research is at the forefront of literatures around learning, AI technology and business strategy. He is an internationally renowned expert in knowledge management and his bestselling book is an essential text in this emerging discipline across the world. It has been translated into Polish, Farsi and Mandarin. He has published ten case studies to allow students and practitioners to apply theory to real life problems. Professor Jashapara has published in high quality journals such as ABS 4* Social Science & Medicine.
Research Awards
Professor Jashapara has successfully secured around £1m research funding from bodies such as ESRC, EU, NIHR (SDO) and the United Nations. As Principal Investigator, he has secured an ESRC grant to evaluate the introduction of critical care paramedics (CCPs) in the UK; their specialist training and their effectiveness. In collaboration with colleagues from King's College, he has secured two research grants from the National Institute for Health Research (SDO) to explore 'knowledge translation' gaps in teaching and learning as well as perspectives on 'knowledge mobilisation'.
Academic Engagement Activities
Professor Ashok Jashapara has been recognised for his excellence in teaching and learning by being awarded 'Principal Fellow' of the Higher Education Academy; the first at Royal Holloway and one of the first in the UK. In recognition of his sustained influence on pedagogy in the national arena, Professor Jashapara was appointed to the national Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) committee to assess the teaching quality of UK Universities. In addition, he was appointed by the Office for Students to the Subject Level TEF Pilot committee in 'Business & Law' to evaluate the feasibility subject assessments across the UK. As Director of Teaching and Learning within the School of Business & Management, he has provided oversight and strategic direction for all undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. As former Head of a large academic department, Professor Jashapara gained the highest QAA scores for teaching and learning for two subject disciplines in the UK.
Professor Jashapara has provided national leadership for sharing best practices in teaching and learning in the information studies discipline as Associate Director for the Higher Education Academy. He has been External Examiner at the University of Sheffield and currently delivers this role at University of Limerick in Ireland.
Professor Jashapara's has been invited as keynote speaker to numerous international research conferences. Most recently, he delivered a keynote paper at the 17th IADIS International Information Systems Conference 2024 in Porto, Portugal. Previous keynote invitations have included 3rd Iranian Knowledge Management Conference in Tehran, the European Content Management Conference in Zurich, Switzerland and the United Nations in Vienna, Austria.
During his sabbatical, Professor Jashapara was invited as a Visiting Professor to two internationally acclaimed AACSB business schools; ESADE in Spain and SPJIMR in India. This resulted in developing closer networks, conducting masterclasses and sharing best practice.
Professor Jashapara has successfully supervised nine PhD students to completion and has acted as External Examiner to sixteen PhD candidates from around the world including universities in Australia and South Africa. He is open to new PhD students that can problematize aspects of knowledge management or data analytics and are interested in theory building or testing that challenges conventional thinking.
Professional Engagement
Professor Jashapara has acted as regional Chair for NADSN (National Association of Disabled Staff Networks) providing leadership and support to empower disabled professionals from academic, health and police sectors.
As Trustee of the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, the largest social policy charity in the UK involved with different aspects of poverty and social exclusion, he has provided strategic direction and oversight for ten years.
Professor Jashapara has made a significant impact on practitioner audiences having been invited to be part of the keynote panel at Big Data London; an event attracting over 20,000 participants. In addition, he has been invited to Alteryx Inspire 2024 in Las Vegas to share his insights of teaching advanced data analytics using this no-code, low code platform.
Academic Leadership
As Head of Department of Information & Operations Management, Professor Jashapara provided strategic leadership and oversight during the challenging period of the COVID-19 pandemic.
