My research interests are broadly in medieval religion, especially Christianity. I am interested in religious lives, motivations and institutions; also in travel and cultural interactions. I have written about Greek and western European interactions and contacts; about crusading; hermits and monks; fasting and asceticism, and pilgrimage.
