Alice Gregory is an academic in the Department of Psychology at Royal Holloway, University of London. Her work focuses on understanding the etiology of concurrent and longitudinal associations between sleep disturbances and a range of other difficulties. She first developed an interest in sleep research as an undergraduate student at Oxford University. After graduating with a first class degree, she obtained a scholarship to study in Japan for a year, collecting cross-cultural data for her first publication in the field of sleep research. Upon her return to the UK she commenced her doctoral degree at the Institute of Psychiatry (King's College London) using epidemiological and twin samples to learn more about sleep disturbances, anxiety and depression. Dr Gregory was then funded by the Economic and Social Research Centre to complete postdoctoral work to take a cognitive-genetic approach to understanding the etiology of various childhood problems. Since that time, Dr Gregory’s work has been supported by numerous sources including the British Academy, the Economic and Social Research Council and the Leverhulme Trust. She has published well over 100 papers and chapters, mainly focusing on sleep and associated traits. She is a member of the Pediatric Sleep Council, has served as an editor for Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry , she is a member of the Brain and Behavioural Sciences Early Career Advisory Group for the Wellcome Trust. She is an expert for the BBC Focus, has written multiple books for the public (a popular science book, a children's book and a gift product) and her Conversation articles have been read well over 1,000,000 times. She has supported initiatives with the Department of Health and the Department for Education.
