Personal profile
Personal profile
I am a Postdoctoral Teaching Associate in the Department of Psychology at Royal Holloway, University of London. I completed my PhD in Psychology at Birkbeck, University of London under supervision of Prof Eddy Davelaar and Dr Virginia Eatough. I received a bachelor's degree in Philosophy, Psychology and Sociology Teaching from Cukurova University in 2009 and a master's degree in Psychology from Kingston University in 2013.
I hold a Fellowship with the Higher Education Academy and maintain memberships with the British Neuropsychological Society, Federation of European Neuroscience Society, and Society for the Study of Addiction. I am actively engaged in the THESIS (Teaching in Higher Education, Supporting and Inspiring Students) group, as well as the Learnus community, an organization devoted to enhancing learning through insights from brain, mind, and behaviour research. Additionally, I serve as a local group representative for the British Neuroscience Association (BNA).
Teaching
I mainly teach research methods and statistical techniques employed in psychological studies. I am passionate about equipping students with a comprehensive understanding of research methods and statistics, empowering them to apply these skills to their own research and academic pursuits. I also teach applied cognitive psychology topics. I use innovative and creative strategies to make teaching fun and interactive. My teaching spans across various academic levels, ranging from undergraduate to doctoral programs.
Research interests
My research centers around exploring the potential impact of legal (e.g., alcohol and nicotine) and illegal recreational drug use (e.g., cannabis, cocaine and ecstasy) on cognitive abilities, such as executive functions, retrospective and prospective memory, and identifying risk factors including executive dysfunction and impaired metacognition, that may contribute to the transition from recreational drug use to addiction, using both qualitative and quantitative research methods. I am also interested in investigating the underlying mechanisms of various cognitive functions, such as prospective memory and metacognition, and their potential associations with academic performance.
