Plants for improved food, fuel, and well-being

The Centre's focus is fundamental and applied research into mechanisms that determine plant traits with agronomical, nutritional and health benefits. Interdisciplinary approaches with wild, vegetable, ornamental and crop model species target molecular, biochemical and biophysical key processes decisive for improved plant performance in changing environments and for the society's growing demands in food security and sustainable agriculture. Research projects include European Network Consortia and in plant Systems and Synthetic Biology close collaboration with staff in the Department of Computer Science, RHUL. The Centre's research groups have collaboration projects with industrial and academic partners including Syngenta, Boehringer Ingelheim Pharma GmbH & Co. KG, KWS SAAT AG, CABI, John Innes Centre, Rothamsted Research and with other universities as well as research centres in Europe and world-wide. This research focus is central to the RHUL Research Theme "Sustainability and Global Security".
