Organisation profile

The interdisciplinary Centre for Audiovisual Research (CAVR) is based in the School of Performing and Digital Arts but galvanizes research in this area from across the college.

The Centre focuses on the distinctive contribution of audiovisuality to its various cultural forms, including screen media (film, television, video games), stage forms (theatre, opera, interactive musical performance) and exhibition forms (heritage sites, museums).

With an inclusive membership of researchers at all levels, including scholars and practitioners in Music, Media Arts, Humanities, History, Business and Management as well as experimental researchers in Psychology, the Centre facilitates the exploration of multi-disciplinary perspectives on audiovisual cultural forms, including the human sensory processing of those forms.

The Centre hosts talks and events, mentors Early Career Researchers and Mid-Career Researchers, and offers structures of support for MMus/MA/MSc students and PGRs. It welcomes partnerships with creative and cultural industries and cultural organisations.
