The paper explores the role of language switching and self-translation in the French and German poems of Jean Hans Arp. It focuses on his Dada poetry as well as that of the interwar and postwar periods. It also considers the relationship between his poems and his output as an artist and sculptor. The paper was presented at the symposium held to mark the opening of the major exhibition, 'The Nature of Arp' at the Nasher Sculpture Center, Dallas, Texas.
