Activity: Talk or presentationOral presentation

In this video, Mr Daniel Parkes (PhD Candidate) introduces key concepts surrounding the carbon cycle and climate change with a focus on the role of the ocean. The video begins with an introduction to key terms for discussing the carbon cycle and the how big of a role the ocean has in moderating climate change. Next, the video gives an overview of how ocean mud can inform us about past changes in the carbon cycle and climate. In this section, key methods of reconstructing the history of the ocean are explained. The next section focuses on how ocean circulation works and why it is important for the carbon cycle and our climate. The video finishes with a practical example of contemporary research into abrupt climate change and how to become a past climate researcher.
