Unlocking West Nile’s Potential: Sustainable Sectoral Investments for a Borderland

Activity: Talk, presentation or media contribution › Invited talk

Description

Invited presentation, 3rd International West Nile Diaspora Convention, Milton Keynes, UK, 16–19 July 2026. Audience: 140+, viewed by over 900 people (YOUTUBE)

The keynote reframed West Nile as a strategically connected borderland region whose development potential can be unlocked through sustainable investment in its natural, human, cultural and strategic capital. It introduced an asset-based, stewardship-oriented framework for regional development, linking sustainability, cross-border connectivity and sectoral investment to inclusive and transformative economic development.

The Convention aimed to translate dialogue into tangible partnerships, bankable investment opportunities, and long-term frameworks capable of catalysing sustainable economic growth and transformative regional development in Uganda's West Nile region.

The Convention reflects my wider research interests in sustainability, regional economic development, institutions, and tourism, and demonstrates how academic research can inform policy dialogue and investment strategies in low-income regions.
