Theatre practitioners and critics make regular, confused references to the Osaka Bunraku Theatre. The puppets of Handspring Puppet Company and Blind Summit Theatre will be analysed to see the true extent to which the technologies and techniques of ningyo joruri are utilised in puppets routinely described as 'bunraku' or 'bunraku-style'.
