Temporary Labour Migration and Institutional Precarity in Agriculture: The Case of the UK’s Seasonal Workers Scheme

Activity: Talk, presentation or media contribution › Oral presentation

Description

I delivered a policy-focused presentation to 15 colleagues at the International Labour Organization (ILO, Geneva) on temporary labour migration in agriculture, with a particular focus on the UK’s Seasonal Workers Scheme. The session examined policy mechanisms and social protection measures to address labour precarity and exploitation. This engagement was supported by £1,200 in CHRONOS Impact Funding and has contributed to the ILO’s ongoing policy dialogue on fair recruitment and decent work in temporary migration programmes. Impact is being sustained through continued engagement with ILO policymakers and technical officers. Building on this work, my ESRC-funded research agenda will generate further impact through the delivery of targeted policy workshops, the production of a policy report and a variety of policy briefs, and structured consultation with key governance actors, including the UK’s Fair Work Agency, trade unions and labour rights organisations, to support evidence-informed labour migration governance and social protection design.
