Keynote Speech: It can be truly frustrating when the dominant discourse is one which assumes inaccurately that all the world looks the same. In the case of corporate social responsibility, one for this takes is an assumption that the starting point of social responsibility is large Western firms. In practice, the business landscape is overwhelmingly comprised of small and medium sized enterprises. SMEs are in fact the norm, and yet Small Business Social Responsibility tends to be misunderstood. In this speech Professor Spence will consider questions such as (1) How does Small Business Social Responsibility compare with Corporate Social Responsibility? (2) What are the implications for social responsibility initiatives in the supply chain? and finally (3) What other partnerships might be productive in the pursuit of social responsibility.
