Round-table discussion: ‘Mythologos: History into Fiction’, International Medieval Congress, University of Leeds.

Activity: Participating in or organising an eventParticipation in conference

Description

From Helen Waddell to Adrian Goldsworthy, there have long been academic historians who have chosen to explore their subject from a fictional perspective. The Trivent publishing house in Budapest has launched a new book series, Mythologos, to explore that interface between academic history and historical fiction. In this session, two Mythologos authors, Jonathan Harris (Theosis) and Zdenka Janekovic Römer (Marusha: A Trial to Love) and the series editors and publisher will consider some of the issues arising from moving from academic enquiry into the world of the imagination: how do historians imagine the past after being trained only to analyse it? How do they shape their narratives for a general readership? They will then solicit the views of the audience for the perspectives of academics, novelists, and would-be novelists.
