A programme of three intergenerational workshops co-produced and run through Intergenerational Music-Making (UK charity). The workshops combined IMM's signature method of music therapy with my focus on facilitating memory-sharing between older and younger people.
The workshops brought primary school children (aged 8-9) into a local care home to meet residents. Each workshop began with IMM's core practice, shared music-making. Children then got into groups with an older resident, to have small-group conversations in response to the questions "What do you like to hear? see? do? eat? ... and why?". We then shared what we'd found out (and what we had in common), and used those examples to write our own shared version of the Sound of Music song "Our Favourite Things", and sang it together.
