Keynote Lecture for conference, 'Conrad, a Hundred Years After his Death'. at the University of Limoges. It considers the deep knowledge of Conrad's works shown in 1960s' novels by Tayeb Salih and Ngugi wa Thiong'o as against the inaccuracies in Hisham Matar's recent novel, My Friends. The lecture concludes with Alain Jaubert's Au bord de la mer violette and Gail Jones's One Another, which also display a deep engagement with Conrad's fiction.
