Description
The Art ColonyA performance on the border between theatre, supper club and artist talks. Through choreography, dramatization, installation and dinner, the mythical art colonies are reconstruction in the City Gardens in GÖTEBORG.
Artistic colonies have historically served as a resistance to the current societal order, and they have been a place for artists to explore new expressions, try out new ways, and do what no one dared to do before. What kind of contemporary artistic places of escape are needed today?
Through the eyes of three female artists - Lili Brik (most famous for inspiring Majakovskij, Yves Saint-Laurent and Pablo Picasso), Virginia Woolf (Bloomsbury group) and Anna Ancher (Skagen painters) - we look back to the early 1900s and to the turn of the century's Art colonies.
Each performance is hosted by an invited guest (read about invited guests here) that reflects on art colony as life art, resistance strategy and alternative forms of society - and how art can make a room for change today.
The Art Colony is a fiction of a daydream, a dream of how art can enhance us. An attempt to create the feeling of the original. A play to investigate what is genuine. The light of Skagen is mixed with sweaty poetry, and innovative form.
Each performance is hosted by an invited guest who reflects on the art colony as life art, resistance strategy and alternative forms of society - and how art can make a room for change today.
Ami Skånberg Dahlstedt is a performing artist working with dance, text and film. Her work is an intra-action of contemporary dance, Japanese dance, life stories and artistic research. She recently premiered the performance The Laugh of the Medusa, which united punk, Hélène Cixous, Japanese medieval poetry and disco. She is investigating a slow walk, suriashi, in order to see how a method for/from dance can be a way to meet society / to meet in society. She has also begun a performance piece on how female madness is being constructed, to be premiered in October 2018.
