The lecture then outlined Conrad's life and family background before returning to Conrad's relations with Liverpool. The final parts of the lecture discussed Conrad's first novel, Almayer's Folly, an the Preface Conrad wrote for it; Conrad's fictions about Africa; and Liverpool's trade with West Africa.
