The Inaugural University of Surrey Annual Open Research Lecture event, held on 8th April 2022, was a lively and inspirational event attended by close to 150 people. The event was the first in a series of annual lectures planned for the forthcoming years. The series provides a platform for our community across all disciplines and career stages to discuss and share their knowledge, experience, and aspirations in Open Research.
Dr Karen Salt (Deputy Director, R&D Culture and Environment) gave an inspirational Lecture on the topic of “Open and Transparent Research Culture”.

The engaging poster session that followed showcased 30 posters from individuals and teams across the full range of career stages, representing a broad array of disciplines including Literature & Languages, Physics, Health Sciences and Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

The final session of the day was a stimulating panel discussion on the topic of “Incentivising Open Research across all disciplines”, with panel members Grace Gottlieb (Head of Research Policy, UCL), Dr Karen Salt (UKRI), Dr Marton Ribary (Winner of the Surrey 2021 Open Research Award), and Professor Marcus Munafo (Head of UK Reproducibility Network). The event closed with an opportunity for networking at the drinks reception.
