Advanced Training: conducting and Crafting Qualitative Research

  • Sara Alshareef (Participant)

Activity: Participating in or organising an eventParticipation in workshop, seminar, course

Description

The course is about conducting and crafting qualitative research. Given that most participants have already taken one or more excellent courses touching upon various aspects of qualitative research, the instructor for this course will adopt a practical approach toward developing qualitative manuscripts. The attendees will be divided into teams, and each team will undertake a “course project.” Each team will develop an outline of a manuscript (or necessary material for writing up a manuscript) on a simple topic. The instructor will cover various issues and challenges including those related to setting up the field, data collection (in particular, interviewing), data analysis, the role of theory, representing findings, and quality criteria in the context of the team project for the course. While the manuscript developed in the course will probably not turn out to be of publishable quality, it is expected that participants will be able to apply some of the lessons learned from the course and the “project” to energize their work toward their own papers and/or PhD theses.
